Lamborghini Countach LP400 S, czyli druga generacja wprowadzona w 1978 roku, zachowała styl i osobowość pierwowzoru, lecz dorzuciła do jego wyglądu jeszcze bardziej ekscytującego smaczku. Lamborghini zamiast mnożyć hurtowo zmiany skupiło się na usprawnieniach, które sprawić miały, że samochód stanie się bardziej przyjazny kierowcy. Przyczepność polepszono dzięki zastosowaniu szerszych opon, a właściwości jezdne poprawiono zmieniając ustawienia zawieszenia. Nadwozie otrzymało bardziej muskularne nadkola, które zmieścić musiały nowe opony Pirelli o rozmiarze 205/50VR15 z przodu oraz 345/35VR15 z tyłu – najszersze ze stosowanych dotychczas w samochodach drogowych. Co ciekawe silnik V12 Countacha pozostał nietknięty, a co za tym idzie osiągi cięższego od poprzednika LP400 S obniżyły się, a moc delikatnie zmniejszono z 375 do 355 KM. Nikomu to jednak nie przeszkadzało, i nie przeszkadza do dziś, a „siedzący” bliżej jezdni przedstawiciel drugiej serii jest zdecydowanie bardziej pożądany. Ten okaz Lamborghini Countach LP400 S przez wiele lat był własnością jednej rodziny. W pełni oryginalny, po niedawno przeprowadzonych pracach mechanicznych, wylicytowany został za 368 tysięcy dolarów, czyli prawie 1,4 miliona złotych.

Lamborghini’s second-generation Countach, the LP400 S, kept the flair and personality that made the original Countach so exciting. Rather than opt for wholesale change, the focus was on improvements that would make the car better overall. The most apparent change was the fitting of even wider Pirelli tires, requiring further modifications, including completely revised suspension geometry to account for the change in tire and wheel size. The bodywork was also fitted with muscular flares to house said wider wheels and tires. Performance remained on par with the car’s stellar looks, and the LP400 S had a top speed quoted at 179.8 mph.

Within the hierarchy of the Countach LP400 S, the Series II models are identified by their lower ride height and smooth finish concave wheels. The 50 Series I Countaches, as well as the Series II cars, retained the attractive lower stance, with the Series II cars sitting slightly higher.

Longtime Lamborghini enthusiasts, the current owner’s family acquired this Countach from the Road Show of Dallas, Texas, on 31 March 1986. The car was registered annually between 1989 and 1993, with an engine rebuild performed by Dallas Motorsport and Atwell Engineering in 1992. The Lamborghini has since been stored in the family’s collection alongside their many other fine collector automobiles until this year. It has more recently been reconditioned prior to sale by RM Auto Restoration, with extensive mechanical work to return it to running and driving order. Importantly, the car retains its original interior, now freshly detailed. The car is offered with ownership documentation and maintenance receipts from the early 1990s, largely related to the engine work, as well as a correct owner’s manual.

An exceptionally original Series II Countach from dedicated long-term ownership, this LP400 S marks a rare opportunity in a growing market for these low, sleek machines – a vision of future’s past that looks nearly as modern today as it did in the 1970s.
