Mercury to marka Forda stworzona w 1939 roku, aby zapełnić lukę pomiędzy Fordem a luksusowym Lincolnem. Pełniła bardzo podobną rolę jak Buick i Oldsmobile dla General Motors, a bezpośrednio konkurowała z DeSoto od Chryslera. Pierwsze samochody Mercury oznaczone były numerami (seria 99A i 09A), a dostępne w wersjach convertible, coupé i sedan. Jeden z kabrioletów zasłynął jako Bat-mobile w serialu Batman and Robin z 1949 roku.

The company Mercury, the passenger car brand of Ford, produced the Mercury from 1939 to 1942 and from 1946 to 1951. The model was later named Mercury 8. The first model years of the Mercury (series 99A and 09A) were derived from the Ford of the same model year and also came with a L-head 3.6 liter V8 engine with 3622 ccm and 70 kW. This Mercury was available in the variants convertible, coupé and sedan. As of 1941 the Mercury was revised and enhanced (series 19A and 29A). Wheelbase and length were increased, the front fenders became more edgy. Next to a coupé with 5 seats, a two-seat business coupé, a luxury coupé with 6 seats and a station wagon with wood fairing were also offered. During WW II production of the Mercury was stopped, after the war the production of the same model from before the war was resumed (series 69M, 79M and 89M). The engine had a size of 3.9 liter (3923 ccm) and an output of 74 kW. Over the next years only a few optical modifications were made. In 1948 the same model from the previous year was simply built under a new model number, however, less body variants were offered. The first new post-war construction was the model 9CM, introduced on the market in 1949. The fenders were modified, they were integrated into the body, the slightly swung engine hood was another novelty. The model was also technically modified: the engine now had 4185 ccm and an output of 81 kW. In the next couple of years only a few enhancements were applied. As of 1952 the Mercury cars got model names: the simple model was called Custom, the more luxurious model Monterey. No other car offered as many individual options as the Mercury did – making it the “Leadsled“. A modified Mercury served as Bat-mobile in the series Batman and Robin (1949). Mercurys also appeared in many films, among them … Rebel Without a Cause (1955) and Grease (1978).
This 4-door Mercury M74 Sport Sedan, model year 1951, is a very special custom car – a so-called “Chopped Top Lead Sled“ conversion. Basic optical characteristics of the car were kept, but it was largely modified with several modern components according to the client’s wishes. Over the years various new and high-quality components were added to body, interior and mechanics, among them a complete airride equipment. The engine is a Chevrolet 355 V8 engine with rotating units and performance camshafts, as well as Edelbrock manifold and carburetor. Other modifications are a shortened rooftop pillar of the Mercury (Chopping). The skull is the car’s central theme: even the headlamps and the license plates have skulls in or on them. The car was first delivered in the USA and was then shipped from California to Germany. All taxes have been paid. It does not have a valid general inspection.
