Porsche bazując na ikonie 911, przygotowało model 959, aby wygrać nim Grupę B w Rajdowych Mistrzostwach Świata. Dla uzyskania homologacji FIA, Porsche musiało wyprodukować co najmniej 200 egzemplarzy ze zwykłą homologacją drogową. Model debiutował na salonie Frankfurt Motor Show w 1985 roku. Samochód produkowany był w dwóch wersjach wyposażenia, „Sport” i „Komfort”, które opisywały odpowiednio wersję wyścigową i drogową. Pierwszy egzemplarz w tej drugiej wersji do sprzedaży trafił dopiero w 1987 roku i kosztował 225 tys. dolarów amerykańskich, co nie stanowiło nawet połowy kosztów produkcji jednej sztuki. Produkcja zakończyła się już 1988 roku, z szaloną liczbą 292 egzemplarzy, które zjechały z linii produkcyjnej. Łącznie, wliczając w to 37 prototypów, model Porsche 959 powstał w tylko 337 sztukach. Licytowany egzemplarz o srebrnym kolorze i czarnym wnętrzu na pewno będzie łakomym kąskiem dla kolekcjonerów. Szacowana wartość tego pojazdu to 600-700 tys. euro. Podczas licytacji osiągnięta została kwota 952 tys. euro.
Dom aukcyjny RM Sotheby’s już w ten piątek rozpoczyna jedną z największych w Europie aukcji pojazdów zabytkowych: “Duemila Ruote” czyli dwa tysiące kół. Ciekawostką jest to, że wszystkie samochody należą do jednego właściciela, i wszystkie licytowane zostaną bez cen minimalnych. W dniach 25-27 listopada, w Mediolanie, licytowane będzie 430 samochodów, ale to nie wszystko: ponad 150 motocykli, 60 łodzi, setki rowerów i wiele więcej. Based on Porsche’s iconic 911, the 959 was built to win the FIA Group B World Rally Championship whilst serving as a development platform for the new all-wheel-drive Type 964. It was shoehorned full of innovative technologies and lightweight materials, and it was powered by a rear-mounted, 2.8-litre turbocharged engine. Quite docile and civilized at driving speeds, the 959 could leap from 0–60 mph in less than four seconds, run the standing quarter-mile in just over 12, and reach a maximum speed approaching 200 mph. In the fully leather-upholstered, carpeted, air-conditioned confines of a 959, this was accomplished in a calm and controlled, even quiet, fashion.
Delivered new to Padua in July 1988, it is believed that this 959 ‘Komfort’ has remained in northern Italy its entire life. The car’s odometer currently shows just under 29,200 kilometres from new and is finished in silver over a black leather interior. It presents nicely throughout and would surely make a wonderful addition to any collection of Porsches. Furthermore, it is important to note that the car retains its original engine.
Even by today’s standards, Porsche’s 959 is one of the automobile world’s true wonders—very fast, well built, and extremely rare. It pioneered technologies that would not appear in other production cars for years afterword and asserted Porsche’s position in the industry as the leader in performance and automotive technology. Well preserved and with limited mileage since new, this 959 will not disappoint.
